The theme of UABB 2015 is Re-living the City, which could also be understood as Re-living the Culture.Themed on the city’s cultural evolution, the exhibition compares the rapid development of Shenzhen with the urban cultural development of Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province from the perspective of an urban study observer. No doubt that numerous soft powers are generated during the evolution process of the urban development and it is meaningful to identify the differences between a new born city and a millennial historic city. We want to know what we have missed and what we should preserve. Jingdezhen has played a highly significant role in the porcelain culture of China. During the urban transformation, we often assume the role of an outsider and even neglect the past and the cultural development of a place. We might be regretful when someday we realize what we have lost. In this exhibition, we intend to take a declining old bakery as the starting point to develop the theme that centers on the cultural development of Jingdezhen. By exploring and documenting the history of a bakery that is soon to be demolished, the exhibition makes it clear to the visitors the significance of re-living the culture.
