“New heritage” is a definition in-between “cultural heritage” and “expired building”. It refers to those are not very old, lack of legal protection and underutilized, but have certain values. Shenzhen Center for Design has recently worked on a series of projects, which combine the exploration of new development demands and new heritage values. While the heritage is revitalized and utilized, these practices enhance the dimensions of Shenzhen urban history and culture. The study of “New heritage, New Value” fills the blank of the theoretical practices in the area of urban heritage, providing with a new way of thinking to urban renewal.
This collateral exhibition examines the theory, methodology and practices of three themes: heritage, new heritage, intangible cultural heritage. The exhibition is collective with a presentation from multiple angles and positions. It intends to stimulate the discussion of urban heritage issues with the public.
