As Harriet Beecher Stowe said "Women are the real architects of society", women, as the main initial drive for the city development, play an indispensable role in Shenzhen urbanization and internationalization. However, women's great contributions do not acquire corresponding social value. The female spirit, which should be shining in the society, are dispersed by the social centrifugal force associated with city high-speed development. In recent years, due to Shenzhen's diversity and tolerance, more and more contemporary female artists in Shenzhen show extraordinary talents. With special female perspective they observe, rethink and present every aspect of society calmly by using different kinds of art forms.

Base on the idea which wants to bring the public focus on mass issues on the women, for the women and with the women in Shen Zhen and southern China along with the urbanization and internalization of Shen Zhen. Dr REN Jue and Xu Yuanyuan invite female artists in Shenzhen, southern China and oversea to present their opinions through their art projects to put local and area women's situations in the past, today and for future in this global factory, in which is building up a maker city now. We try to bring these female artists unique observation and art presentation to express the female spirit which make the city development to be a 35 years old miracle and has been hidden fragmentary in the city to this themed exhibition, "City Matrix", to reliving the city with the power by the female contributors in the city.
